The Vamuz Family
Once our visas were approved in 2021, we made the big move to Australia. Inspired by the countless van conversion videos I’d watched during lockdown, I bought a Ford Transit and began building our dream campervan on weekends in a friend’s warehouse in Torquay. After a year of trial and error (one complete teardown after a 3/4 complete fitout), learning as I went, the van was finally complete.
Our first road trip was to Warrnambool in regional Victoria, and it was such an awesome experience—a cozy home on wheels that gave us the freedom to explore. Shortly after, we packed up everything and set off on a much bigger adventure, relocating to the Sunshine Coast. We took the scenic route, traveling through Wilson’s Promontory, the stunning South Coast of NSW, and all the way up the East Coast until we arrived at our new home in Warana.
Once we settled in, we decided to share the van with others by listing it on Camplify. It wasn’t long before other families and adventurers began hiring the van for trips to places like Cairns, Airlie Beach, Coffs Harbour, Sydney, and even Kangaroo Island. Seeing so many people enjoy the van on their own adventures was incredibly rewarding, even though it meant we often had to walk or ride our bikes around town whenever our family car was out on a road trip
Before long, demand for the campervan was so high that we found ourselves without a vehicle for our own family trips. That’s when I decided to add Vamuz II, a rugged off-road GWM Cannon, to the fleet. This setup was perfect for reaching places like Double Island Point, Inskip Point, K'gari (Fraser Island), and Northern NSW’s incredible coastal national parks like Lake Arragan and the Tweed Coast.
As with the first van, Vamuz II quickly became popular with hirers. So, we expanded again, adding a third vehicle—a Skoda Kodiaq equipped with a rooftop tent and designed for shorter, more luxurious getaways. It became the perfect option for families wanting to explore spots like Noosa Eco Camp or enjoy a weekend escape to the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
Today, the Vamuz fleet offers something for every kind of adventurer:
Vamuz I (Ford Transit): A home on wheels with all the comforts you need for extended trips.
Vamuz II (GWM Cannon): Rugged and ready for off-road adventures in harder-to-reach locations.
Vamuz III (Skoda Kodiaq): A quick, luxurious setup for exploring coastal gems and scenic getaways.
What started as a dream of showing my family the best of Australia has grown into a way to help others experience the freedom and beauty of this amazing country. Whether you’re after epic surf spots, peaceful national parks, or a journey through the outback, there’s a Vamuz camper waiting to take you there.
